Punting ed altre attività per il tempo libero ad Oxford
Oxford d’estate cambia completamente: le strade del centro sono piene di gente, i parchi sono affollati e quando il sole è davvero forte puoi vedere tutti sulle rive del Tamigi ad abbronzarsi o a tenere i piedi a mollo nell’acqua magari accompagnati da buona musica e da un milk shake o da un gelato (i migliori li puoi trovare a Moo-Moo’s nel Covered Market).
In summer Oxford completely changes: downtown streets are full of people, parks are crowded and when the sun is really hot you can see people all along the River Thames tanning or keeping their feet soaking in the water with good music and a milk shake or ice cream (the best place you can find them is Moo-Moo’s in the Covered Market).

Well, you can rent a small boat very similar to a Venetian gondola and you can be guided by an expert or you can drive it by yourself owning a punt with your friends or whoever you want.
Ci sono diversi punti nella città in cui puoi noleggiare un punt: a Magdalen Bridge Boathouse, Magdalen Bridge o nell’Orto Botanico o Cherwell Boathouse: alla fine di Bardwell Road, vicino i campi da gioco della Dragon School o ancora Salter’s Steamers, Folly Bridge, vicino St Aldates.
Il costo è di circa £ 12 – 15 per mezz’ora senza guidatore esperto o £ 20 – 25 accompagnati.

Fare punting è molto divertente le prime volte, perché all’inizio è difficile far andare avanti la barca, poi diventa rilassante, puoi ammirare il verde attorno al fiume e osservare le tante oche che abitano il fiume. Vedere la città da un punt è un’esperienza fantastica, tutto ha un altro aspetto.

Puoi fermarti a fare un pic-nic dove vuoi e nei punti più puliti del fiume puoi anche nuotare un po’ (vi assicuro che l’acqua non è sporca). E se non sei per le attività tranquille puoi sempre fare “Bridge-Hopping”, scavalcare i numerosi piccoli ponti di legno o di ferro che sono lungo il corso del fiume e magari saltare dall’altra parte per risalire sulla barca o organizzare una gara di punts con i vostri amici.

E a proposito di gare, se siete fortunati potresti anche assistere ad una gara di rowing: gare di barche tra università o le più famose, che hanno origine medievale, tra Oxford e Cambridge.
